There are so many good dog walks in Pembrokeshire, but it’s useful to know where to find some local walks when you have just arrived … before heading further afield. These walks are all within easy reach of Manor Bedw … and of course we have a large enclosed garden you and your best friend are welcome to enjoy!
Foel Drygarn: a walk on the hills – just 10 minutes drive away
One of our favourite local walks – turn right out of our driveway and head towards Crymych. Just after the Crymych sign which shows you have arrived in the village, turn left. Follow the road around to the left and park in the layby. Opposite you is the lane leading to Foel Drygarn. You can make this walk as long or as short as you like – straight up the hill and back or extend as you wish. The exact location is shown on this map:

There are sheep on the hills in the summer, so if you prefer to avoid them, why not try one of the following walks:
Pantmaenog: a walk on forest trails – 15 minutes drive away
Turn right out of our driveway and head towards Efailwen. Take the first left and follow the signs to Maenclochog. Turn right into the village and follow the road (B4313) until you reach the official Pantmaenog car park – it’s difficult to spot, but it is on the right, just after the turnings to the village of Rosebush. It’s labelled Horse box parking on the map:

Minwear / Canaston Woods: a walk in the woods – 15 minutes drive away
Canaston and Minwear Woods offer lots of great possibilities for dog walking, most of which are shown on this map: http://www.pembrokeshirecoast.org.uk/Files/files/Walk%20PDF/short_walks/english/minwear_canaston.pdf
To find one of our favourites, park at Blackpool Mill and walk over the bridge to the other side of the river. Turn left and follow the path towards Slebech.
Colby Woods – 20 minutes drive away
Colby Woodland Garden is a National Trust property with some beautiful walks, but you need to keep your dog on a lead. However, if you park on the opposite side of the road, slightly further up from the main car park, you will find a new car park and some lovely quiet woodland walks where you will meet fewer people and your dog will have more freedom to walk off the lead. There is no charge to park or walk here, unlike the main Garden where there is an entrance fee.

A walk at Llys y Fran Reservoir & Country Park – 20 minutes drive away
This always makes a great dog walk – you can park on either side of the reservoir and do a short stroll or a complete circuit. There is a guide and a map you can download from the following web page:

PLEASE NOTE: LLYS Y FRAN IS CLOSED FOR 2018 FOR A MAJOR REDEVELOPMENT.
A Narberth woodland walk – 10 minutes drive away
Narberth is our local town. Park in the Town Moor public car park and next to the RAOB Club you will see a footpath leading into a woodland. This makes a nice stroll, but can be extended into a longer walk if you wish.
Beach walks
All of Pembrokeshire’s beaches, over 50, welcome dogs. You can choose from wide expanses of golden sand such as Marloes or secluded bays such as Broad Haven South.
During the height of summer, 1st May to the end of September, some of the more popular bathing beaches have dog restricted areas (This includes Poppit, Newgale, Broad Haven, Dale, Lydstep, Tenby South, Saundersfoot and Amroth). On two beaches, Whitesands and Tenby North to include Castle Beach the restriction covers the whole of the beach.
This still allows you access to miles and miles of beach on which your dog can run, and the following website Dog Rover – Dog friendly beaches and walks across Pembrokeshire will give you all the ideas you could possibly need!
To view dog bans and restrictions operating in the summer, you can download maps in PDF format from the Visit Pembrokeshire website:
